5 Must-See Cities to Visit in Switzerland
# 1 Luzerne
Luzerne is a major city in Switzerland, with charm similar to Zurich, but add on gorgeous mountain views! I absolutely adore sitting by the lake with a beer looking out over the water at these tall snow-capped mountains! There's also a lot of historic sights to see in Luzerne, like the wooden bridge below.
# 2 Rapperswil
A one hour drive from downtown Zurich will take you to Rapperswil, a smaller quaint city sitting alone the far-end of the lake. Rapperswil was always one of Irfan and I's favorite places to visit or spend the day! There are delicious restaurants located along the water with beautiful views and fresh air. There are castles to explore, gardens to enjoy, old town streets and stores, and places to go swimming, and boating. We once rented a paddle boat here that had a dolphin slide attached and had an awesome time for a few hours out on the lake!!
# 3 Lenzerheide
Lenzerheide is a local popular spot that international tourists often won't hear about. I love lenzerheide for its originality, traditionally feel, authenticity, views, and cheese! I had the best cheese fondue of my life at this secret little restaurant located at the top of a snowy mountain. You must hike your way up the mountain to find this spot, and on the way down you're loaned a sled to ride back down the mountain! It was an unforgettable experience.
# 4 Interlaken
Interlaken is a much more well-known spot than the rest, but is worth it for the bluest lakes I have ever seen, the tallest mountain in Europe, and amazing paragliding!
# 5 Zermatt
Zermatt is a one-of-a-kind gem! It is not easy to get out there, but totally worth the trip! A treacherous drive uphill brings you to a garage where you leave your car before boarding a train that takes you to Zermatt! Such a unique experience to visit a town without car access, Zermatt is a beautifully romantic town on top of a mountain with unique views of the Matterhorn and amazing skiing.
